Whitsunday Islands, Australia: September 2002

Another early start, I was picked up from Airlie Beach and shuttled off to the harbour to meet my fellow shipmates, and board Waltzing Mathilda for an idyllic 3-day sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands

Our shoes were confiscated for the duration of the trip, but we quickly adapted to that... we weren't about to go hiking anywhere afterall!

After gaining our sea legs, we spent most of our time on the boat lazing about, eating, drinking, and getting sun and wind burnt

ABOVE RIGHT Me, Simone (from Italy), Wayne (the skipper), Kate (Australia), Caroline (UK), Flo (Netherlands), someone, Ping (UK), and er, someone else

RIGHT Whitehaven Beach has the most incredibly smooth, almost white sand, the clearest possible water, perfect blue skies, and we had it all to ourselves for as far as the eye could see! In the distance we can see Waltzing Mathilda

LEFT AND BELOW LEFT Sailing as the sun sets on the second day

ABOVE RIGHT, AND RIGHT On our final day, we are taken to another beach while Wayne and Flo clean the boat. This new beach isn't anywhere near as impressive as Whitehaven, but we entertain ourselves anyway, by either sunbathing some more, or burying Ping
